Privacy Policy
Privacy policy for Incipor — how we handle your manuscripts and personal data.
Last Updated: April 10, 2026
Data Collection
Incipor is a local-first application. Your manuscripts, notes, characters, scenes, and project files are stored on your Mac and are not transmitted to our servers. We do not read, index, or transmit any content you write in Incipor — with the narrow, opt-in exception of the cloud AI features described below.
What We Do NOT Collect
- Manuscript text, chapter titles, character names, scene content, or notes
- File names, folder structures, or your Mac’s local paths
- Personal identification information, email addresses, or account data
- Keystrokes, writing patterns, or usage timing
- Device diagnostics or location data
- Payment information (handled by Apple App Store)
- User accounts or authentication data (Incipor requires no account)
Data Storage
- Manuscripts, notes, characters, and project files are stored locally on your Mac in the
.bookformat. - If you export or publish to EPUB, PDF, or Apple Books, the exported file is created locally on your Mac. You control where it goes from there.
- We have no access to your data.
AI Features
AI features can be toggled on or off from Settings → AI. When enabled, Incipor uses two kinds of AI processing, and the app routes each request to the appropriate one:
Local processing. Some AI tasks (autocomplete, style review, summaries, repetition scans, consistency checks) run on your Mac using Apple’s mlx-swift framework. When a task runs locally, no prose, prompt text, or metadata about the request leaves your device.
Cloud processing. Other AI tasks (revision, polish, editorial passes, the Writing Assistant, and quality tasks on Macs with insufficient RAM for the local quality model) are processed on our servers (models.incipor.com), which forward the request to Anthropic’s Claude API. We do not store the text of your requests or responses on our servers, and no API keys or user identifiers are embedded in the Incipor app binary. Anthropic processes the request under its own privacy and usage policies. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (Consent) for prose content sent to cloud processing; Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Legitimate Interest) for routing metadata.
The split between local and cloud processing is determined by the app based on the task type and your Mac’s hardware. There is no user setting to force all processing local; to prevent any AI processing from occurring, disable AI features entirely in Settings → AI.
Third-Party Services
Anthropic PBC (Claude API): Only when you opt in to cloud AI features. Receives the prose or prompt text you explicitly send, via our servers. See Anthropic Privacy Policy. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (Consent).
Amazon Web Services (AWS): Hosts our servers (models.incipor.com) and the incipor.com marketing website. AWS processes request metadata necessary to route traffic. See AWS Privacy Notice. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Legitimate Interest).
Google Analytics (incipor.com website only, NOT in the app): Anonymous website usage statistics. Loaded only after you grant consent via the cookie banner. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (Consent). See Google Privacy Policy.
Apple Services: App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and any iCloud features you explicitly enable. See Apple Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
- Cookie consent preferences: 365 days
- App data: stored locally on your Mac until you delete it. Uninstalling Incipor removes the app; your
.bookfiles remain where you saved them. - Website access logs: rotated per AWS defaults.
- Cloud AI requests: not retained on our servers.
Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
- Access: All manuscript data is stored locally on your Mac — you already have access to it.
- Deletion: Delete your
.bookfiles, uninstall Incipor, or both. No server-side data to request deletion for. - Opt-Out: Disable cloud AI features in Settings. Disable website analytics by declining the cookie banner.
- Complaint: Right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority (Germany: BfDI, https://www.bfdi.bund.de).
Security
Data is protected by macOS device encryption. Cloud AI requests to our servers are transmitted over TLS 1.2 or higher. No API keys are embedded in the Incipor app binary.
Children’s Privacy
Incipor is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from any users, including children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date above and, where required, surfaced in the app.
